Loma Linda University Medical Center is associated with Loma Linda University School of Medicine and is located approximately 70 miles east of Los Angeles and 40 miles west of Palm Springs, California. The hospital is a 650-bed facility offering a wide variety of residencies and subspecialty fellowships. The cardiology residency program is also affiliated with the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Administration Hospital in Loma Linda, a 435-bed facility. The residency program is in good standing with ACGME standards and provides excellent clinical cardiology training in all of the required aspects of cardiovascular diseases.

The inpatient cardiology clinical service consists of CCU and Telemetry Units dedicated to acute cardiac care. Additional beds are available for patients undergoing invasive cardiac procedures. The cardiac noninvasive laboratory offers training in ECG interpretation, exercise testing, echocardiography, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI and nuclear cardiology. Opportunity is available for inpatient and outpatient consultation experience, including experience in longitudinal outpatient care for patients with cardiac disorders. Laboratory experience includes electrophysiologic testing, cardiac catheterization, coronary arteriography, and interventions. Training in pacemaker implantation and assessment of pacemaker function is provided. Elective time is offered for pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery.

The first two years of the cardiology residency program is comprised of rotations through the different aspects of cardiology. The third year is devoted to in-depth training in one or two aspects of cardiology, and will include active participation in research.

The duration of the cardiovascular disease training program is three years, with a maximum of three positions offered each academic year. The appointment to the residency program is renewable each year on the basis of satisfactory performance. A California medical license is required prior to beginning residency training at Loma Linda. All applicants must participate in the National Resident Matching Program. The fellowship program accepts applications through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). The application and all supporting documents must be submitted to ERAS. The following items are necessary for completion of the application:

• Dean's letter
  
• A complete curriculum vitae
• Personal Statement
  
• Two letters of recommendation from physicians currently acquainted with your medical qualifications
  
• A copy of scores for each examination taken
  
• A copy of your medical school diploma
  
• Certified copies of your medical school transcripts
• Reference letter from program director for each prior training program

If you are an international medical graduate, please submit the following in addition to those items listed above:

• Certified copies of your USMLE results
  
• Valid ECFMG certificate

If you are an international medical graduate, please submit the following items in addition to those listed above:

• Copy of California medical license, if licensed
  
• Letter from licensing board of any state where licensed
  
• Letter from medical staff office of any facility where staff privileges have been held

ERAS accepts up to seven letters, including two recommendation letters and those from each previous training program. Applications received in our office by January 15, 2009 will be considered for the 2010 academic year.
